Look Back in Anger leading man Matthew Rhys will star opposite Keri Russell (TV’s Felicity) in the new FX drama pilot The Americans, according to Deadline.com. Created by Joe Weisberg and directed by Gavin O’Connor, the period drama will feature Rhys and Russell as a couple in an arranged marriage. No production dates have been announced.
Set in suburban Washington D.C. during the Cold War, The Americans centers around Phillip (Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Russell), a couple whose arranged marriage grows more and more passionate, but is put to the test due to the strange and funny relationships they maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control.
Rhys is currently making his off-Broadway debut in the Roundabout Theatre Company production of Look Back in Anger. Best known as Kevin Walker on TV’s Brothers and Sisters, Rhys’ London theater credits include King Lear, Romeo and Juliet and The Graduate, opposite Kathleen Turner.
